Tumblr (stylized as tumblr.) is a microblogging platform and social networking website founded by David Karp in 2007, and owned by Yahoo! since 2013.[1] The service allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. Users can follow other users blogs, as well as make their blogs private.[4][5] Much of the websites features are accessed from the "dashboard" interface, where the option to post content and posts of followed blogs appear.
As of March 1, 2016, Tumblr hosts over 282.1 million blogs.[2] As of January 2016, the website had 555 million monthly visitors.[6] The companys headquarters is in New York City.[2]
Yahoo! announced its intention to acquire Tumblr on May 20, 2013, for approximately $1.1 billion.[7][8][9][10] The deal closed on June 20, 2013
